The only incident of note this week was the regular visit to the practice nurse. The vestiges of the surgical bandage had finally washed out, leaving what feels like a rather large bald patch and two stitches. The nurse easily snipped and pulled out the stitches, and congratulated me again on the state of the wound. She also hoped my hair would grow back, with which I heartily concur. But best of all, after 24 hours to allow the holes from the stitches to close, I would be able to bare my head to the winds, to quote a friend.
Ten Years Ago: North Baths, Wick
While at the surgery, I asked the nurse if there had been a letter regarding the pathology results of what had been excised. I’d asked at reception the week before, but nothing had come in. The nurse kindly looked it up on the computer, and found that a letter had come in, which she printed out. The consultant in Inverness has given the all clear, saying the results were reassuring and that no further treatment is necessary. But she cautions that I still need to be vigilant. Will do.

Other activities this week have included lots of paperwork. The task of organising a bamboo pipes course in October has fallen to me, and I’ve started to arrange the last-minute things. One task is procuring name tags, pencils, and plastic wallets for music. Another is asking some participants to conduct a 20 minute slot during one of the daily sessions when we all play together. Nearly all have replied in the affirmative, and one has volunteered to do three slots! The last task will be sending out a final letter, reminding people what they need to bring.

Another thing I’ve been working on over the past few weeks is choosing a new webhost for the site. I’ve been dissatisfied with the current host for quite a few years, but the idea of moving the site so daunting I’ve been putting it off. Hopefully when it happens it will be seamless, but there’s always the possibility things will go sideways. So if for some reason the site disappears, you’ll know why.
I am also pleased to report that the car is behaving itself. I’m keeping it plugged in when at home, just in case.
I’ve been plodding along with the gansey, slow and steady. The pattern is simple but effective: one row knit, one row purl, one row knit, one row knit 3 purl 3, one row knit, one row purl. On the next knit 3 purl 3 row, the purls go above the knits of the previous repeat. Perhaps a chart would be simpler:
The gussets have just been completed and it’s time to work front and back separately. I should be able to work the knit rows of the chart on the right side and the purl rows on the reverse, which means more knitting and less purling.
